Europe is one of the seven continents of the world. It comprises of the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia and this continent is divided from Asia by the Caucasus Mountain to the southeast and by the water divide of the Ural Mountain, the Caspian Sea, and the Ural Mountain to its east. At its north Europe is drenched by the Arctic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean and the Black Sea to its southwest. However, the borders for Europe are somewhat random and have roots in the classical antiquity. As far as, surface area is concerned, Europe is the second smallest continent covering just 2 % of the earth’s surface. It is the third most populated continent after Asia and Africa. It is where western culture has its roots and the nations of this continent have played a pertinent role on global stage from the 16th century, particularly after the advent of colonialism. After the 17th and 18th centuries, such nations had controlled over most of the Africa, America and Asia. It is a major destination for tourists round the world.
