Djibouti is in East Africa, bordered by Eritrea to the north, Ethiopia to the west and south, and Somalia to the southeast. The Gulf of Aden lies to the east. The country can be divided into three regions; the coastal plain and volcanic plateaus in the central and southern parts of the country and the mountain ranges in the north. Much of the country is vast wasteland with virtually no arable land.
Djibouti's climate is very hot, humid and arid, especially in the summer. The summer heat is moderated, however, by a sustained breeze in the coastal city of Djibouti. From October to April, the temperature is cooler, with occasional rain. Cyclones from the Indian Ocean create heavy rains and flash flooding
Getting there and getting around
Djibouti can be reached in from around 28 locations in UK and Ireland with airlines such as KLM, Airfrance, Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airway.
Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport serves flights from Dubai, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Puntland, Somaliland, Tanzania, Egypt, Madagascar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen through various airliners. The airport is situated 3 miles south of the city.
Other modes of travel to Djibouti include train, bus, taxi, boat and car with various economical choices and packages from connecting states.
Taxis can be rented from the Airport to the town. Also Ferry serives can be enjoyed at good rates and packages. The best option is to cycle around the small capital.

Some of the must-see places in / around Djibouti are The beaches at Dorale and Khor-Ambado, Gulf of Tadjura, Lake Abhe, Afar Triangle, Lake Assal, Tropical Aquarium and Ambouli etc.
Food & Drink
One of the renowned eateries in Djibouti is Melting Pot, Heron Rue Bernard which is a Fusion Cuisine Restaurant dealing in Japanese-Greek-French cuisines. You can also purchase food and general merchandise at the large departmental stores using USD however, a higher conversion rate shall be charged.
There are many places that Djibouti offers for Food & drink for both western and local cuisines. Local Cuisines are lighter on pocket; however, average price per meal ranges up to US $ 4 including drink.
Entry Requirements - Visas
British nationals require a visa to enter Djibouti. Tourist visas for up to one month can be obtained on arrival at the airport. Visas can also be obtained from the French Embassy in London.
British nationals applying for a Djibouti visa in Ethiopia generally require a letter from the British Embassy in Addis Ababa for presentation at the Djibouti Embassy. There is a fee for this service payable in local currency.
Entry Requirements - Travelling with children
Single parents or other adults travelling alone with children should be aware that some countries require documentary evidence of parental responsibility before allowing lone parents to enter the country, or in some cases, before permitting the children to leave the country. For further information on exactly what will be required at immigration, please contact the French Embassy in London.
